Oct 15  2023- Nina Gerber & Chris Webster-Concert in the barn
Music fans around Northern CA certainly know both Chris Webster and Nina Gerber as two of the most skilled and artful musical talents we’ve had the pleasure of hearing. Webster’s voice is uniquely compelling while Gerber’s work on guitar is breathtakingly both beautiful and powerful. Together they are magic. Webster and Gerber join together for an exquisite evening of original tunes and tasteful covers-soulful ballads, jazzy tunes, and gorgeous folk.

Nina-Gerber-and-Chris-Webster_486_LoResWEB_by-Irene-Young
Chris Webster is a very special singer. She can rock, she’s got soul, and most of all she can find the tiniest hints of emotion in any song and make it reverberate in our soul for a mighty long time. Also, she’s grown into a major league songwriter, whose lyric takes on love, lost love, and the general vicissitudes of life are at different times poignant, funny, introspective, and exhilarating. Stylistically Chris runs from country, pop balladry, jazz, folk, blues, and whatever she does she brings sensitivity, strength, and an emotional breadth that few singers can match.
Guitarist Gerber has a long history in Northern California music performing guitar accompanying dozens of artists including Kate Wolf, Eliza Gilkyson, Peter Rowan, Dave Alvin and most recently Karla Bonoff. She is exquisitely tasteful as an accompanist on both acoustic and electric guitar. Together Webster and Gerber create magic like few others.”

Nov 08 2023- The Tannahill Weavers – Scotland’s Premiere Traditional Band

Screen Shot 2023-02-15 at 9.45.08 PM

The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances and outstanding recording efforts that seemingly can’t get better…yet continue to do just that.
The Tannahills have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with an electrifying effect. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment, and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. As the Winnipeg Free Press noted, “The Tannahill Weavers – properly harnessed – could probably power an entire city for a year on the strength of last night’s concert alone. The music may be old-time Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight-ahead rock and roll.”

Our past concerts:

Feb 21, 2020 – FRI – 7PM –  Kevin Carr & Dick Hensold with Patsy O’Brian – A double bill of fine traditional players and storytellers. (4 seats left)

“For over thirty years dynamic fiddler-piper-storyteller Kevin Carr has honed his craft in smoky Irish pubs, remote cabins in Quebec, and in dance halls across America. He’s played banjo in Latvia, learned to play the bagpipes of a dozen countries and dug deep to find just the right stories to share. His one-man musical theater of the imagination blends folklore, true-life adventure, and the rare, soulful, fiery sounds of fiddle and pipes into a mesmerizing experience.”

A concert of traditional Celtic music, but with unique and innovative arrangements, including a variety of songs from Britain and Ireland, accompanied by guitar and Northumbrian smallpipes (a quiet bagpipe from Northeast England), or various whistles.  It also features traditional and historical tunes from Cape Breton Island, Scotland, Ireland and Northumberland, with a good measure of original music in the traditional style.  As well as a broad range of styles of Celtic music, this program also features an impressive range of expression, from the jaunty and humorous to soulful, led by Patsy’s warm and multi-colored baritone voice, Dick’s variety of pipes and whistles, and the nimble instrumental virtuosity of both musicians.  (Please note that NONE of the various bagpipes used in this concert are very loud.)

Wednesday, Sept 14  – Peppino D’agnostino – Master of World Guitar

Peppino D’Agostino emerged on the acoustic guitar scene in the early 80’s as a leading member of the second wave of the great fingerstylists that helped redefine the instrument in the ’90s. His remarkable technique, penchant for open tunings, and percussive effects are the basis of his unique compositional style which has been inspiring musicians and audiences alike for decades. Add to that his natural warmth, playfulness, and broad musical tastes and you have the recipe for what he calls “minestrone music”. His virtuosity and his emotional charge have also had a significant influence on the younger generation of fingerstyle guitarists. D’Agostino continues to evolve and grow in ways that would have been hard to predict when he first showcased his melodic yet emotionally intense style on the recordings Acoustic Spirit, Close to the Heart, and Every Step of the Way which was named one of the top three acoustic guitar albums of all time by Acoustic Guitar magazine readers.

Ryan McKasson, Eric McDonald and Jeremiah McLane are masters of tradition who purposefully explore the dark corners floating on its edges. Their individual artistry is enhanced when together. In short, the sum creates a greater whole. The result is an alluring complexity, full of spontaneous musicality. Pulling from parallel strands of influence, they create a swirling level of intensity that traverses darkness, light, and everywhere in between. An air of mystery pervades a sound compelling enough to transcend boundaries and appeal to music lovers of all stripes. Devon Leger of Hearth Music says, “This trio really shows how masterful musicians listen and play off each other.” The music they create is to share, and live performance is the forte. But their mutual attitude stretches beyond the music. They have been good friends ever since they met, and this is present in their live performances, which are full of organic banter and good humor to go along with the music. They create an environment of their own design, drawing in listeners without pretense. Despite living active musical lives thousands of miles apart these musicians have committed to working together to forge a new musical path.

December 04 – WED 7PM –  Patrick Ball, Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter.   We finally get to have Patrick Ball here, legendary storyteller and player of the rare wire-strung harp. Patrick Ball, Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter perform Celtic legends, along with Irish and English literature woven together with beloved and rare pieces of holiday music. A blend of music and oratory, falling somewhere between concert and theater, infused with a touch of seasonal magic.

This trio is well known for their first show “Legends of the Celtic Harp” which tells stories and legends of the harp through time. In their new show “A Winter Gift” storyteller and wire-strung harpist Patrick Ball along with harpers and multi-instrumentalists Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter step into a magical world of Irish and English literature with passages and poetry from Yeats, Hardy, Shakespeare and more. With charm and humour, they perform traditional Nordic music in a captivating way that speaks to audiences everywhere. They are both “riksspelmän” (a distinction awarded to the best players of traditional music in Sweden) and tour extensively in Europe as well as in America.

Máire Ní Chathasaigh & Chris Newman 2019 The celebrated virtuoso partnership of “the doyenne of Irish harpers” (SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY) and “one of the UK’s most staggering and influential acoustic guitarists” (ROOTS), has by now brought its special musical vision to venues large and small – from the tiniest of historic churches in England, Germany and Italy to palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul, London’s Barbican, Sydney Town Hall and the Philharmonie in Cologne – in twenty-two countries on five continents. Their performances – described by The Irish Times as “music of fire and brilliance from the high-wire act in traditional music” – are rooted but eclectic, emotional but adventurous: a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque, coupled with striking new compositions and Chris’s delightfully subversive wit.  We are so very lucky they are stopping by on their tour.

Each brings an exceptionally diverse array of musical influences to the table. Eric studied jazz and bluegrass mandolin at the Berklee College of Music before finding his way to DADGAD guitar; Ryan carries a degree in viola performance, and is one of the youngest to ever win the US National Scottish Fiddle Championship; Jeremiah, in addition to being raised with Scottish roots, has studied Indonesian Gamelan, West African drumming, and the music of minimalist composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass. His compositions have won numerous awards and been featured in films.

Kalos’ music asks to be shared live, and performance is the band’s heart and forte. Their partnership stretches beyond the music, born of fast friendships formed at the band’s origin and exhibited in their playfulness on stage. Kalos forges a new musical path that draws on Celtic, Breton, American and other musical traditions on accordion, guitar, fiddle, and vocals.  Visit Kalos Website

April 10 – POSTPONED – McKasson, McDonald & McLane (waitlist only)  – Don’t miss this chance to see three of the top Celtic musicians in the world. We are honored to have them. Listen for yourself.

May 13 – POSTPONED – 7PM Banshee in the kitchen (waitlist only)    Banshee In The Kitchen plays Celtic music with eclectic skill and merry abandon. Touring and recording since 2002, this group has delighted audiences in festivals, theaters, living rooms, and countless other venues from New York to Los Angeles, and as far as Japan. They take traditional Celtic tunes, find the sweet spot between old and new, stirring it all up with trademark playfulness and musicality they term “banshee-fying”… These ladies are our good friends and we cannot wait to host them.

National Champion hammered dulcimer player Brenda Hunter (fiddle, hammered dulcimer) and Jill Egland (flute, accordion, whistle) trade-off inspired flights of lead and counter-melody over dynamic backing by Kat Edmonson (six- and twelve-string guitar, bouzouki). No strangers to the microphone, the three trade off lead and backing vocals on a choice selection of songs, as well as jocular commentary in between.
The sound is completed with the rich bass notes from Kris Wilber, alternating between her acoustic standup bass and electric bass.

December 04 – WED 7PM –  Patrick Ball, Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter.   We finally get to have Patrick Ball here, legendary storyteller and player of the rare wire-strung harp. We have toured with Patrick for years, and you do not want to miss this. We have done this Winter show in both Corvallis and Eugene, but its a bit different every time.

“A Winter Gift” is presented by three of the premier Celtic Harpists in the world.

They skillfully mingle them with beloved and original pieces of seasonal music.
